MY COLORS

The main goal of this blog is to exhibit samples of my color work. I borrowed some line art from artists that I admire, such as Katsuhiro Otomo, Moebius, Jim Lee, among others, because their singular comics styles allowed me to explore different color approaches.

Color diversity

As I said before, I'd chosen different kinds of comics (manga, american, european) so I could create a varied color work. In order to accomplish that, I played with several combinations of values, textures and hue gradients.

This is a cover from Katsuhiro Otomo’s “Akira”.
Here I used value contrast to highlight the main action: Akira staring the moon. I played with color saturation on the actual lights in the image, and their bounced lights on the objects, to generate a sensation of dynamism in the color treatment.

American comics

These colors want to bring out the hero-heroine by high contrasted light and shading. I used texture and hue gradients to complex the treatment color.
